Jason Kalafat is an experienced criminal defense attorney who has defended clients at all levels of local, state, and federal courts. Mr. Kalafat began his criminal defense career in 2002, as a deputy public defender in Maricopa County, Arizona, the nation’s fourth most populous county. As a deputy public defender, Mr. Kalafat concentrated on felony and misdemeanor cases at the trial level, including complicated DUI allegations, assaults, sex offenses, robberies, gun offenses, burglaries, drug charges, and homicides. In 2005, he joined the prestigious boutique criminal law of Kimerer & Derrick, where his practice concentrated on defending misdemeanor and felony DUI and criminal cases in court and before administrative agencies.

An aggressive litigator, Mr. Kalafat is committed to ensuring that defendants have the best possible chance for a positive outcome in their case. He takes the time and effort necessary to examine every aspect of each individual case in order to create specifically tailored defense strategies and ruthlessly attack the prosecution’s claims. Mr. Kalafat graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 2000, which is consistently ranked among the best U.S. law schools and where Mr. Kalafat participated in the Moot Court program. He has spoken at the Arizona Public Defender Association’s annual conference and he has presented on various legal topics at the Arizona State University College of Law and the Phoenix School of Law. He graduated magna cum laude from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy in 1997, where he was the WVU Arts & Sciences Graduate of the Year.
